CSR Pioneer, Dr Alan Murray, Joins Cornerstone
Cornerstone Global Associates are delighted to announce that Dr Alan Murray has joined Cornerstone as Senior Consultant.
Dr Murray has a long and distinguished career in corporate social responsibility (CSR), corporate social reporting, sustainable development and management research.
Dr Murray currently lectures in CSR and Accounting at the University of Sheffield Management School, where he has designed and teaches courses at MBA and MSc levels. He also supervises doctorate students and has taught undergraduate courses on financial management and accounting.
Besides publishing in academic journals, Dr Murray has co-authored a leading book on CSR: Corporate Responsibility: A Critical Introduction (2008, Oxford University Press), and has co-edited a forthcoming book Corporate Social Responsibility: A Research Handbook.
Dr Murray was a member of the United Nations Global Compact Taskforce on Principles of Responsible Business Education (UN PRiME), member of the Executive Committee of the British Academy of Management (BAM) (2002-2009), and is currently Chair and Founder of the BAM Special Interest Group in CSR. He has also played a leading policy role by being part of an initiative with the Economic and Social Research Council, which recently secured almost £2m of funding to develop capacity in Management and Business.
Dr Murray is a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Management and Issues in Social and Environmental Accounting. He is also a referee for several International journals.
His over thirty-year career includes public- and private-sector engagements, starting with over ten years with the Metropolitan Police. His high-profile work with the police included involvement on very serious and highly publicized investigations such as the Lord Lucan murder case, the murder of Airey Neave and many others. He later entered private practice and worked with an Edinburgh based firm of Chartered Accountants working with a wide range of companies in the area of insolvency, corporate reconstruction and corporate recovery.
