On 1 October Cornerstone opens a new office for operations in continental Europe. Cornerstone will advise European clients with interests in the regions we currently cover, as well clients who wish to expand in Europe. Ms. Simona Opriessnig, a recent graduate from the University of Klagenfurt and human rights activist, joins Cornerstone’s internship scheme.

Ghanem Nuseibeh‘s article with Naava Mashiah, on the opportunities for the Gulf and Israel to collaborate economically has been published in newspapers across the Middle East, including by Khaleej Times and Al Ettihad in the UAE, Egypt Daily News and others. Original article can be accessed here.

The paper “Collaborating to achieve corporate social responsibility and sustainability?: Possibilities and problems” published in Sustainability Accounting Management and Policy Journal has been chosen as a Highly Commended Award Winner at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2011. The paper’s authors include Dr Alan Murray (Senior Consultant), Kathryn Haynes and Lucian Hudson(Partner and Managing Director 2009-11). 

Lucian Hudson is leaving Cornerstone Global Associates at the end of April, after two very successful years as Partner and Managing Director. He will taking up a new senior appointment which will be announced next month.

Lucian will be handing over to Alan Anstead and Mark Somos, who will respectively be Director of Strategy, Policy and Communications, and Interim Managing Director.

Alan and Mark both worked closely with Lucian whilst at Cornerstone, and Alan was also working with Lucian at the FCO. (more…)

Ghanem Nuseibeh (Founder, Partner and Director) wrote an article for Campaign (Middle East), about why the coverage by Al Jazeera of the Bahrain events could damage its image of impartiality.

Ghanem argued that because of Bahrain’s proximity to Qatar, inadequate coverage of events there may impact negatively on the news channel. He explained that for a world-class organisation like Al Jazeera, competing demands of the multiple stakeholders is an organisational rather than a journalistic challenges. Lucian Hudson (Partner and Managing Director) is quoted in PR Week for the third-week running. PR Week is the UK’s leading publication for public relations professionals. He gives a verdict on the UK government’s mixed messages. The article can be accessed here.

Last week, Lucian’s comments were also carried by PR Week commenting about William Hague’s handling of the situation in Bahrain. Lucian described Hague as a “thoughtful” media operator who has gained the trust of his audiences.

Dr Mark Somos (Partner) was a speaker and panelist at the Sussex Salon event, “What is the Role of Law in International Affairs?”. Other panelists were Profs. Craig Barker, Bill Bowring and Dr. Tarik Kochi. The debate was attended by a paying audience of over 100, who voted on issues ranging from intervention in Libya to the triability of Tony Blair.
